Microsoft is getting serious about the Internet of Things


IoT or the Internet of Things is becoming more and more salient technology trend these days. Big players like Microsoft and Google are playing a huge role in the development of this technology.

Wikipedia defines the internet of things as

the interconnection of uniquely identifiable embedded computing like devices with the existing Internet infrastructure. Typically, IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine communications (M2M) and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications

A thing, in the IoT, can refer to a wide variety of devices that range from heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, an automobile with built-in sensors to field operation devices that assist fire-fighters in search and rescue (Wikipedia)

Microsoft is considering IoT is an important dimension to its devices strategy and bringing Windows to more device

In addition, Microsoft is expanding its flagship cloud platform Microsoft Azure by including Event hubs.
